    THE STORY

Eau Claire is Calgary's riverside downtown neighbourhood, sitting where the Bow River meets the city's core. It runs from the Bow River on the north to 5 Avenue SW on the south, and from Centre Street on the east to 10 Street SW on the west, wrapping around Prince's Island Park and pointing straight at the skyline.

The name traces to the 1880s, when the Eau Claire and Bow River Lumber Company floated timber down the Bow to a sawmill on these banks, borrowing the name from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The industrial waterfront has since become one of Calgary's most walkable addresses, a mixed-use quarter of riverside condominiums, plazas, and pathways minutes from the office towers of the Financial District.

In the city-centre market, Eau Claire trades as a premium address. Its average sale price of $980,816 reflects large-format riverfront residences and a location that pairs urban convenience with direct access to the water, Kensington across the river, and Chinatown next door.

    OUTSIDE

Prince's Island Park, a 50-acre island in the Bow River, anchors the neighbourhood with pathways, gardens, an amphitheatre, and the River Café. The Bow River Pathway runs along the water for kilometres in both directions, and Santiago Calatrava's Peace Bridge carries pedestrians and cyclists across to the north bank. Eau Claire Plaza, reopened in 2025, hosts community events and cultural gatherings at the water's edge.

    AMENITIES

The Eau Claire Area Improvement Association represents residents on planning and public-realm issues. Commuting is largely on foot into the core, with quick access south via Centre Street and along 4 and 5 Avenue SW, and west toward Kensington over the river. The Green Line LRT's underground Eau Claire station is under construction on the former market site, set to link the neighbourhood with Chinatown, the East Village, and points south.

    SHOP & DINE

Everyday shopping and dining sit within a short walk. The River Café on Prince's Island is a Calgary institution, while the Kensington district across the Bow River adds boutiques, cafés, and restaurants, and neighbouring Chinatown brings groceries and dim sum. Downtown's Stephen Avenue and The Core shopping centre are a few blocks south, putting full-service retail, banking, and dining within easy reach of every Eau Claire address.
