Garrison Woods
Garrison Woods is a master-planned inner-city community in southwest Calgary, built on the former CFB Calgary Currie Barracks in the city-centre. It sits between Richmond Road SW to the north, 33 Avenue SW to the south, Garrison Crossing to the east, and Crowchild Trail to the west, a short walk from the Marda Loop shopping district and the neighbouring communities of Altadore and South Calgary.
When the military base closed in the late 1990s, Canada Lands Company redeveloped the site on new-urbanist principles, completing roughly 1,500 homes by 2004. Original street names honour the First World War battle honours of Lord Strathcona's Horse and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and the Garrison Woods Legacy Walk threads 14 battle-honour monuments through the community's tree-lined streets and greens.
