Mayfair
Mayfair is a small, low-profile enclave in Calgary's city-centre southwest, holding the high ground between Elbow Drive on the east and the Glenmore Reservoir on the west. Bel-Aire sits directly to the north and Glenmore Trail marks the southern edge, with the 14 Street SW flyover and Heritage Park just beyond. Downtown is roughly six kilometres north, about a 15-minute drive up Elbow Drive.
The community was established in 1957, one of the postwar estate districts laid out for Calgary's affluent families on generous, mature lots. In the way Pump Hill anchors the reservoir's southwest side, Mayfair holds the northeast shoulder — quieter, smaller, and every bit as private, with low-traffic streets, deep setbacks, and a mature tree canopy running down toward the shoreline.
Mayfair real estate is almost entirely single-family detached, and turnover is low; homes here are held for decades, so listings stay scarce. That scarcity, combined with the reservoir setting and a genuine city-centre address, keeps Mayfair among the strongest-value pockets in southwest Calgary.
The Glenmore Reservoir sits at Mayfair's doorstep, with the North Glenmore Park pathways, the reservoir's sailing and rowing waters, and the Elbow River pathway system all within reach. Mayfair Park provides green space inside the community, while Heritage Park, the Calgary Golf and Country Club, and Earl Grey Golf Course are all minutes away. Runners and cyclists connect directly into Calgary's regional pathway network from the shoreline.
The Mayfair Bel-Aire Community Association serves the neighbourhood with playgrounds, private tennis courts, an outdoor skating rink, and fitness equipment. Commuting is straightforward: Elbow Drive runs north to downtown in about 15 minutes, while Glenmore Trail and the 14 Street SW flyover give quick east-west access across the city and out to Crowchild and Deerfoot Trails. The Chinook CTrain station on the Red Line is a short drive east.
Britannia Plaza, just north up Elbow Drive, is the neighbourhood's everyday hub — Sunterra Market for groceries, alongside cafés and restaurants including Brown's Socialhouse and the long-running Suzette Bistro. CF Chinook Centre, one of Calgary's largest malls with more than 250 shops and restaurants, is minutes to the east, and the boutiques and dining of Marda Loop and 4th Street SW are a short drive north.
