Mahogany
Mahogany is Calgary's largest freshwater lake community, a master-planned neighbourhood in the city's southeast built around a 63-acre lake with 21 acres of sandy beach. It sits south of 52 Street SE, north of 196 Avenue SE, west of the Bow River, and east of Stoney Trail, putting the Seton urban district and the Bow River valley within easy reach.
Developed by Hopewell Residential beginning in the mid-2000s, Mahogany matured into one of Calgary's most recognized lake communities, anchored by its private beach clubs and the resort-style Westman Village on the water's edge. The community pairs a wetlands preserve of more than 70 acres with a walkable urban village core, giving it a character distinct from the standard southeast suburb.
With an average sale price around $735,090, Mahogany spans a wide market: entry condos, family townhomes and detached houses, and lakefront estates that trade well above $2 million. It remains one of the most active and sought-after resale markets in southeast Calgary.
Mahogany's outdoor life centres on the lake, two private beaches, and the 21,000-square-foot Mahogany Beach Club, with a fishing dock, splash park, tennis courts, and non-motorized marina. More than 265 acres of parks and over 70 acres of protected wetlands lace the community with pathways that connect to the wider Calgary Greenway. The Bow River valley and Fish Creek Provincial Park sit close by.
The Mahogany Homeowners Association operates the beach clubs and year-round recreation programming that define the community. Commuters reach downtown in roughly 30 to 40 minutes via Stoney Trail and Deerfoot Trail, with 52 Street SE and Rangeview Drive feeding the neighbourhood; Calgary Transit bus routes connect toward the CTrain, and the future Green Line LRT is planned to serve the adjacent Seton district.
Day-to-day shopping sits in the Mahogany Village Market, with Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, and restaurants including Kinjo Sushi & Grill, State & Main, Nando's, and The Canadian Brewhouse. Minutes south, the Seton urban district adds a Walmart Supercentre, Home Depot, Cineplex Seton, and the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, one of the largest YMCAs in the world, giving Mahogany residents big-box and boutique options close to home.
