Aspen Woods
Aspen Woods is the newest of Calgary's west-side prestige communities and one of the most consistently expensive addresses in the city. It sits in the west quadrant, bounded by 17 Avenue SW to the north, Old Banff Coach Road to the south, Sarcee Trail to the east, and 85 Street SW to the west, sharing edges with Springbank Hill, West Springs, Christie Park and Strathcona Park.
Built out largely between the early 2000s and the late 2010s, Aspen Woods reads as a planned luxury community rather than an inner-city enclave: gently curving streets, treed boulevards, and a quiet, residential calm. The defining feature is the topography. West-facing lots along the Aspen Summit ridge open to Rocky Mountain views on a clear day, while east-facing lots look back toward the downtown skyline.
That combination of mountain views, newer estate housing, and a catchment loaded with top-ranked schools keeps Aspen Woods near the top of Calgary's luxury market, with average sale prices well above the city as a whole.
Green space threads through the community, with roughly a third of the area preserved as parks and pathways. Griffith Woods Park sits just south along the Elbow River for forested trails and off-leash areas, while Edworthy Park and Baker Park on the Bow River are a short drive north. The Westside Recreation Centre anchors indoor recreation with pools, an indoor track, skating and a climbing wall.
The Aspen Woods and Springbank Hill community associations run local programming, and the Westside Recreation Centre serves the wider west side with aquatics, fitness and rinks. Commuting is straightforward: Bow Trail and 17 Avenue SW feed east toward downtown, Sarcee Trail and Stoney Trail connect the ring road, and the 69 Street SW CTrain station on the Blue Line puts LRT rapid transit minutes away.
Aspen Landing Shopping Centre, at 85 Street and 17 Avenue SW, is the community hub, with more than 60 shops, services and restaurants anchored by Safeway and Shoppers Drug Mart alongside cafes, boutiques and Crave Cupcakes. Everyday dining and coffee sit within walking distance for many homes, and the Calgary Farmers' Market West and the newer retail at Trinity Hills add more shopping and food options a short drive north.
