Signal Hill
Signal Hill is a west-side hillside community that climbs the slopes above the West LRT line, roughly bounded by Sarcee Trail to the east, 69 Street SW to the west, and Bow Trail across the north. Built out mainly through the 1980s and 1990s, it gathers several distinct enclaves under one name, including Sienna Hills, Signal Ridge, Sierra Morena, and Signature Parke, on terraced streets that open to Rocky Mountain and city-skyline views.
The community takes its identity from Battalion Park, where roughly 16,000 whitewashed stones on the southern slope spell out the numbers of the First World War battalions who trained on the hill. Today Signal Hill reads as one of southwest Calgary's most established family districts, with mature landscaping, quick access to the mountains, and a steady, liquid resale market that keeps homes moving in a matter of weeks rather than months.
Battalion Park anchors the community's green space, its historic stone battalion numbers set into the southern hillside above a network of walking paths and lookout points with mountain and city views. Interior pathways, playgrounds, and green corridors thread the residential streets, and Edworthy Park, the Douglas Fir Trail, and the Bow River pathway sit a short drive north for longer rides, runs, and off-leash outings.
The Signal Hill Community Association runs local programming and events for residents across the hill's enclaves. Commuters have among the best access on the west side: the 69 Street CTrain station on the West LRT line reaches downtown in about 25 minutes, while Sarcee Trail, Bow Trail, and Glenmore Trail feed quickly onto Stoney Trail and out to the mountains along the Trans-Canada Highway.
Signal Hill wraps around one of Calgary's largest retail hubs, where Signal Hill Centre and the adjacent Westhills Towne Centre combine dozens of shops and services, from a Real Canadian Superstore to national retailers, plus Westmarket Square and Signature Park Plaza. Dining nearby ranges from The Bro'Kin Yolk for breakfast to Kinjo Sushi & Grill and National on Westhills for evenings out, with everyday groceries, cafes, and services all within minutes.
