Bayview
Bayview is one of Calgary's smallest and most affluent communities, occupying a wooded peninsula that reaches into the southern shore of the Glenmore Reservoir in the city's southwest. It sits directly north of Heritage Park Historical Village and neighbours Palliser, Pump Hill and Oakridge, with access running in from Palliser Drive SW off Elbow Drive and 14 Street SW.
Established in 1967 and built almost entirely by Alcan Design Homes, Bayview welcomed its first residents in early 1968. The community was laid out with front-attached garages, no rear laneways and only a handful of through roads, giving its tree-lined streets a private, deliberate feel. American Colonial is the signature architecture, joined by Spanish, Tudor and mid-century Modern designs.
With so few lots and long-tenured owners, Bayview trades quietly and ranks among the most exclusive addresses in south Calgary.
The Glenmore Reservoir defines Bayview's northern edge, with North Glenmore Park, the Glenmore Sailing Club and kilometres of paved pathway for cycling, running and rowing close at hand. The Weaselhead Flats natural area and the Elbow River sit just west, and Heritage Park Historical Village anchors the shoreline immediately south — giving residents open water and mature parkland in every direction.
Bayview is served by the Palliser Bayview Pumphill Community Association, which runs local programs, sports and seasonal events. Commuting is straightforward via Elbow Drive, 14 Street SW, Glenmore Trail and Anderson Road, while the Heritage CTrain station on the Red Line puts downtown roughly fifteen minutes away without a car.
Everyday shopping and dining sit minutes away at Glenmore Landing, the retail plaza at 14 Street and 90 Avenue SW overlooking the reservoir, with grocery, cafes and restaurants. Oakridge Co-op covers essentials to the south, and CF Chinook Centre — Calgary's largest mall — is a short drive east for full-scale shopping, dining and cinemas.
