Elbow Valley
Elbow Valley is a private, master-planned estate community in Rocky View County, straddling Highway 8 just west of Calgary's city limits and bordered by Springbank to the west and Discovery Ridge to the east. The community follows the Elbow River corridor and Lott Creek, with Hidden Hollow Villas and the original phases south of Highway 8 and the newer phases rising to the north. Downtown Calgary sits roughly 20 minutes east; the Rocky Mountain foothills begin just beyond the community's western edge.
Built around resident-owned common lands, three private lakes, and close to 30 kilometres of pathways, Elbow Valley was planned as a nature-first alternative to the bare acreages of Springbank and Bearspaw. Homeowners pay a monthly fee to the Elbow Valley Residents Club, which maintains the lakes, beach, trails, and shared amenities.
Within Calgary's west-side luxury market, Elbow Valley holds a distinct position: estate living and lake access on the doorstep of the mountains, minutes from Aspen and West Springs, yet outside the city on county land and taxes.
Residents have close to 30 kilometres of private pathways and three stocked lakes, including trout fishing at Fisherman's Lake, plus a beach, boathouse, tennis and pickleball courts, and winter skating. Lott Creek and the Elbow River corridor thread through protected wetlands and parkland. Elbow Springs Golf Club sits within the community, and the Glencoe Golf & Country Club and Kananaskis trails are a short drive west.
The Elbow Valley Residents Club is the community's hub, maintaining the lakes, pathways, and common lands and hosting year-round events through a monthly resident fee. Highway 8 runs straight into the city, connecting to Sarcee Trail, Stoney Trail, and the Trans-Canada Highway, putting downtown about 20 minutes away and the mountains within an hour. The West LRT terminus at 69 Street Station is the nearest CTrain access for commuters.
Everyday shopping and dining sit minutes east in Calgary's west communities. Aspen Landing Shopping Centre offers Safeway, cafes, and restaurants; West Market Square carries Sunterra Market; and West Springs has a Calgary Co-op. Westhills and Signal Hill Shopping Centres add Real Canadian Superstore, Winners, and a Cineplex. Bragg Creek's shops and the mountain towns are a short drive west along Highway 8 and the Trans-Canada.
